Driver assistance

• Audi Pre-sense Front and Basic – monitors the traffic in front of the vehicle for potential collision hazards. The system provides multiple levels of driver support. The first is a warning signal, and the second a warning jerk caused by brief braking. Where necessary, actions are taken to help protect the driver and passengers if a
• potential collision is detected. Includes the following:

• Seat belt tightening for front and rear
• Closing the windows
• Closing the panoramic sunroof (if fitted)

• Lane departure warning – helps, within the system limits, to prevent unintentional departure from the lane. When the system is active and operational, and if the driver has not turned on the indicator, the lane departure warning performs corrective steering interventions to prevent the vehicle traversing from the lane. The driver may select an additional steering wheel vibration as desired. Operating range from approximately 37mph to a maximum of 124mph^ ^

Driver assistance

• Audi Pre-sense Basic and Rear - monitors vehicles following from behind and if a potential collision is detected, the driver is first warned visually via flashing light. Audi Pre-sense Basic measures (e.g. closing windows) are initiated and then if a collision is unavoidable, the system will tighten the front seat belts.
• Pre-sense Front - extends the collision warning and automatic braking function of Pre-sense City to cover the entire speed range (up to 155mph*) and can also increase braking initiated by the driver, if this is inadequate. The system uses the camera located on the front rear-view mirror to detect vehicles and pedestrians in front in order to reduce severity of a collision, or if possible, prevent an accident. The driver is first given a visual and acoustic warning, followed by partial braking and then full brake application
• Audi Side Assist - aids the driver when changing lane. It monitors the area behind your car using radar sensors and informs the driver with a visual warning signal
  in the door mirror if there is a vehicle in their blind spot or approaching quickly from behind. Works at speeds from approximately 6mph
• Cross-traffic assist rear - warns the driver of traffic crossing behind their own vehicle when reversing. The system alerts the driver first visually and then acoustically via
  the MMI, and then applies a brake jolt if a potential collision is detected
• Exit warning - monitors the rear and side of your stationary e-tron and alerts the occupants of vehicles/cyclists approaching from behind, via a warning light on the door handle, before exiting
• 360° camera - wide-angle lenses cover the close range around the vehicle. The driver can choose between different image representations in the MMI display,
  including a live ‘bird’s-eye view’ image for parking. Includes guidelines which help the driver manoeuvre and navigate the vehicle into the right position
• Park assist – searches for suitable parking spaces along the road by means of ultrasonic sensors, calculates the ideal parking path and performs the steering action virtually automatically. The system can support the driver with:

• Parallel parking in reverse
• Exiting a parallel parking space, driving forwards
• Bay parking, both reverse and forwards
• Steering is done by the vehicle, with the driver responsible for acceleration and application of the brakes

• Advanced key with electric hands-free boot opening system – works through automatic data exchange between key and vehicle, allowing the driver to keep the car key in their pocket or bag at all times. Also includes an electric hands-free boot lid release sensor located underneath the rear bumper, which can be operated by a simple kicking movement underneath the sensor
• Rear-view camera – an image of the area behind the vehicle is shown on the MMI display with dynamic display modes highlighting the calculated path (steer-angle dependent)
• Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go and Traffic-jam assist – automatic distance regulation, using radar sensors to maintain the required distance between vehicles
  ahead by braking and accelerating (up to 155mph*). It includes Stop&Go function which brakes the car to a stop and can restart automatically again (subject to certain system limits). Traffic-jam assist detects vehicles ahead and on adjacent lanes to assist with the braking, acceleration and also steering up to approximately 40mph, to keep the vehicle in lane
• Predictive efficiency assistant – the system uses navigation data, e.g. speed limits, traffic signs, road bends, junctions and roundabouts to give the driver efficiency advice in the Audi Virtual Cockpit. In conjunction with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), the system uses the route data and speed limits to adjust the ACC desired speed and cornering accordingly. The system activates free-wheeling mode or engine braking, which can help reduce fuel consumption and enhance ride comfort
• Camera-based traffic sign recognition – speed limit and traffic sign display via the Driver’s Information System (DIS) or optional head-up display. Detects the following signs: speed limits (including temporary limits), overtaking restrictions and no-entry warnings
• Collision avoidance assistant – supports the driver’s actions during an avoidance manoeuvre, reducing the likelihood of a collision or of swerving off the road. The system provides additional steering torque and uses vehicle sensors to calculate the optimum path of avoidance
• Turn assist – when turning at junctions, from the moment the turn indicators are activated, the turn assist system detects approaching vehicles and applies braking to help avoid a collision
• Active Lane Assist – detects lane boundary markings and helps the driver to stay in lane with gentle steering intervention for greater safety and convenience, particularly on motorways. Works at speeds above approximately 40mph

Efficiency, performance and quiet tranquility – the Audi e-tron exemplifies the driving experience of a new era. It combines the everyday requirements of a car and the comfort of the full-size class with an emission-free drive system – at the same time offering the premium experience that is expected from the brand with the four rings, with additional innovative highlights.

Standing still or on the move, the Audi e-tron is electrifying. Its expressive sill area, the electric tailboard and the light grey Single frame are indicators of the high-voltage technology that makes for a special driving experience. The electric SUV is powered by two powerful electric motors that are locally CO2-neutral and virtually silent. A new generation of the quattro drive, the electric all-wheel drive, ensures excellent traction and dynamics. It ensures the continuous and variable regulation of the ideal distribution of drive torques between the two axles – within a fraction of a second.

A key factor for the sporty character and outstanding transverse dynamics is the low and central position at which the battery system is installed. It gives the vehicle a range that is suitable for driving long distances. During far more than 90 percent of all decelerations, the Audi e-tron recovers energy solely via its electric motors. The electric SUV taps its maximum recuperation potential in combination with the integrated electro hydraulic brake control system. Audi is the world’s first carmaker to use such a system in an electrically powered series production vehicle. The cleverly designed aerodynamics also contribute significantly to its efficiency. One highlight of this concept are the optional virtual exterior mirrors – a worldwide first in a series production model. Not only do they reduce aerodynamic drag, they also take digitalisation in the vehicle to a whole new level.

The Audi e-tron offers the spaciousness and comfort of one of the brand’s typical full-size models. Paired with high-quality materials and fine workmanship, it makes electric mobility a premium experience. This is also ensured by the comprehensive and reliable range of charging options with intelligent solutions for at home and on the go.

From navigation with the e-tron route planner, which displays the appropriate route with the required charging points, automated billing at the charging station and all the way to remote control via smartphone – the Audi e-tron is extremely well connected. It is equipped with the high-end media centre MMI navigation plus including LTE Advanced and a Wi-Fi hotspot as standard. Numerous assist systems further relieve the driver. For example, the standard efficiency assist promotes an economic driving style by displaying predictive information and performing automatic recuperation. If selected the adaptive cruise assist, the system can also brake and accelerate the electric SUV predictively.

Practicality and Boot Space

The e-tron offers lots of space and comfort for all its passengers, and with a very practical boot space of 660 litres with rear seats in seating position and 1,725 litres with the seats folded down.

The Final Verdict...

While the e-tron's range is not as good as some of its rivals - you can forgive it. The ride quality is supreme, which is down to the standard air suspension fitted to all e-tron's - the finish of the interior and use of materials is again legendary of what we have become used to, from Audi. If you looking for a premium brand electric SUV for the family, then the e-tron is most definitely a worthy contender, and gets our vote.
