The V90 is Volvo’s 5-door, 5-seat large premium estate. Building on Volvo Cars’ heritage in the estate segment, that began over 60 years ago with the Volvo Duett, the V90 takes the premium estate a clear step forward in terms of aesthetics, materials and finish, while living up to the ultimately practical nature of estate cars.
Like its siblings XC90 and S90, the V90 carries the proud and confident face of Volvo’s design language, along with classic Volvo styling cues. Key features include the iconic “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlight design, the new grille and Volvo Iron Mark, and the expressive use of the Volvo word mark on the rear.
In the cabin, Volvo has taken cues from the clean, Scandinavian interior design of its XC90 model and raised the bar with new details on the dashboard and instrument panel, including new air blades that stand vertically on each side of the Sensus user interface.
All new Volvos are now connected, thanks to Volvo’s connectivity and infotainment system called Sensus. It delivers an intuitive touch screen interface that combines car functions, navigation, connected services and in-car entertainment applications such as Spotify, Pandora, Baidu or TuneIn. The portrait-oriented touch screen enables easy and fast access to a host of functions and features. Smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is also available.
The V90 is powered by Volvo’s Drive-E powertrains, including petrol, diesel and Volvo’s T8 Twin Engine, a petrol plug-in hybrid mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Volvo’s Twin Engine plug-in hybrid delivers all the benefits of a high performance, low emission petrol engine with an electric motor that delivers power on demand with ultra low CO2 emissions and more than 25 miles of pure electric range.
Volvo’s leadership in the field of automotive safety is confirmed in the V90. The SPA platform has resulted in the strongest Volvo cars to date because of extensive use of boron steel, as well as numerous safety systems designed to protect people inside and outside the car.
Volvo’s City Safety technology, standard on all Volvo models, combines automatic braking functionality and collision avoidance systems to cover a range of potential accident scenarios and help keep you safe. City Safety is the only system on the market that detects pedestrians, cyclists and large animals such as moose and deer.
The Pilot Assist driver assistance system works up to 80mph on clearly marked roads and is another step towards Volvo’s Vision 2020, which states that no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo by 2020.
There's plenty of room in the front of the V70, the seats very comfortable and offer plenty of adjustment. The rear is generous too, with enough room for two 6 footer's and ample legroom thanks to the design of front seats. The boot is not as big as its rivals 560 litres with the seats up, and 1526 litres with the seats down. Still plenty of room to get your flat pack furniture in though.

The Volvo V90 is large and comfortable practical car, and is packed with safety technology. The Scandinavian interior designed interior is where the V90 excels, its uncluttered and functional, providing plenty of space for the family and all the luggage. It certainly a worthy contender against it's German rivals and gets our vote.
